Peruvian Novelist, Playwright Mario Vargas Llosa Wins 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature

Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa has won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature. In the Swedish academy’s award citation, Varga Llosa was hailed “for his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual’s resistance, revolt, and defeat.”

While perhaps best known for such novels as The Time of the Hero, The Green House and Conversation in the Cathedral, Vargas Llosa is also a playwright. Among his works are Kathie and the Hippopotamus , La Chunga, The Young Lady From Tacna, and Captain Pantoja & The Special Service. In addition, his novel The Feast of the Goat has been adapted for the stage.
