Off-Broadway’s Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 Supports the Russian LGBT Community

The producers of off-Broadway’s Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 have announced plans to stand with the Russian LGBT community and Human Rights Watch by donating $10,000 plus food and beverage proceeds from the first performance in their new location in the theater district to the organization. In addition, they will contribute all proceeds from a first night after-party on September 27. The party will be free and open to the public.

Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 is a Tolstoy-based electro-pop opera that follows Natasha Rostova, who arrives in Moscow to await the return of her fiancé from the front lines. But when she falls under the spell of the city's most charming rogue, it is up to the disillusioned Pierre to pick up the pieces of her reputation.

Rachel Chavkin directs a cast that includes David Abeles as Pierre, Brittain Ashford as Sonya, Blake DeLong as Bolkonsky and Andrey, Amber Grayas as Hélène, Nick Choksi as Dolokhov, Grace McLean as Marya D, Ashkon Davaran as Balaga, Phillipa Soo as Natasha, Lucas Steele as Anatole, and Shaina Taub as Princess Mary. The cast also features Ken Clark, Catherine Brookman, Luke Holloway, Azudi Onyejekwe, Mariand Torres, and Lauren Zakrin.

“As we invite audiences into our own version of an opulent supper club celebrating Tolstoy’s Russia, we hope to see a contemporary Russia that supports its LGBT community,” said the show’s lead producers, Howard and Janet Kagan in a statement.
