Finneran, Pierce, Prince, Robins, et al. to Celebrate Hagen and Berghof

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts will offer a series of free programs celebrating the life and work of Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof in conjunction with the acquisition of the legendary couple’s papers.

The series kicks of at 6pm on Thursday, September 18 with Remembering Uta, a panel discussion moderated by Foster Hirsch and featuring Barbara Barrie, Richard Easton, Hal Prince, and Fritz Weaver. On Monday, September 22 at 6pm, Katie Finneran, Laila Robins, and Victor Slezak will participate in Reading and Reminscences.

On Tuesday, October 2 at 6:30pm, Uta Hagen’s Acting Class will feature excerpts from a DVD and a panel discussion by Karen Ludwig, Austin Pendleton, and Rochelle Oliver. Next up on 6pm on Thursday, October 23 will be a lecture on Margaret Webster’s famed production of Othello, starring Hagen, Paul Robeson, and Jose Ferrer, to be given by professor Milly S. Barranger, followed by another panel discussion on Hagen’s work to be held at 6pm on Thursday, October 30 featuring Edward Albee, Mitchell Erickson, Anne Kaufman, and Richard Maye.

On Saturday November 8 at 3pm, Mary Anthony, Anne Jackson, Eli Wallach, Edward Morehouse, and Jesse Feiler will take part in a panel discussion The HB Studio: The Early Years, to be followed on Monday, November 17 at 6pm with Remembering Uta and Herbert, featuring readings and memories by Arthur French, David Hyde Pierce, and Marian Seldes. The series concludes at 6pm on Monday, December 8 with a reading by Oliver and Weaver of letters between Hagen and her father.
