Staten Island Philharmonic to Present Man of La Mancha in Concert

The Staten Island Philharmonic Orchestra will present a concert production of the Mitch Leigh-Joe Darion-Dale Wasserman musical Man of La Mancha on Sunday, September 17 at 2pm at the St. George Theatre, located at 35 Hyatt Street on Staten Island.

Starring in the production will be David Weitzer as Don Quixote, Sara Michelle Bickweat as Aldonza, and Jonathan Kay as Sancho Panza. The cast also includes John Case, Ed Egan, Matthew P. Fisher, Jayson Kerr, Sarah Madej, Andy Meyers (Barber), Kevin Ortega, Billy Piscopo (Padre), Carla Stickler (Antonia) and Zach Wobensmith (Dr. Carrasco). The Staten Island Philharmonic will be conducted by Daniel Lepek, and Joshua William Gelb wlll stage the show.

Based on the classic novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes, the musical tells the story of an eccentric 17th century knight who sees life “not as it is, but as it ought to be!” The score includes the hit song “The Impossible Dream” and such other numbers as “It’s All the Same,” “Dulcinea,” and “Little Bird.”

Weitzer has starred in numerous productions of Jekyll & Hyde; his recent Off-Broadway credits include The Awesome 80s Prom and Autumn Moon: A Rock Musical Thriller. Bickweat, who completed her MFA at The New School for Drama in May, has appeared in Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses and in Into The Woods. Kay, a recent graduate of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, was seen in the Berkshire Theater Festival productions of Assassins and Floyd Collins. Gelb, a 2005 graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, is a writer/director whose Something More Pleasant was seen in the New York International Fringe Festival, produced by his company Room5001 Theatre.
