Tony winner Carole Shelley will join the Broadway cast of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder beginning October 28 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. She will take over for Jane Carr, who will play her final performance on October 26.
Shelley last appeared on Broadway in Billy Elliot. Her many other credits include Wicked, Cabaret, The Old Couple, Noises Off, Absurd Person Singular, and The Elephant Man, for which she won her Tony. Her voice has appeared in the Disney animated films Hercules, The Aristocats, and Robin Hood.
A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder tells the story of Monty Navarro (Bryce Pinkham), who has received the news that he is descended from a noble family and could become the next Earl of Highhurst. There are only eight issues standing in his way: the other heirs (all played by Jefferson Mays) who precede him in line for the title. What does Monty choose to do? Eliminate them, of course. The principal company also includes Lisa O'Hare and Lauren Worsham.
The Tony-winning musical features music and Drama Desk Award-winning lyrics by Steven Lutvak and Robert L. Freedman, and a Tony-winning book by Freedman. Darko Tresjnak, who also took home one of the show's Tony Awards, directs.
