Tyne Daly and Terrence McNally Will Reunite for 2014 Broadway Berth of Mothers and Sons

The drama had its world premiere at Bucks County Playhouse earlier this summer.

Tony and Emmy Award winner Tyne Daly will return to Broadway this spring to star in the New York stage premiere of Terrence McNally’s Mothers and Sons, in a production directed by Sheryl Kaller (Next Fall). Dates, a theater, and casting will be announced in the future.

The timely drama by four-time Tony winner McNally finds the mother (Daly) of a man who died of AIDS 20 years earlier arriving on the doorstep of her son’s former lover, who is now married to another man and has a young child. Premiering earlier this summer at Bucks County Playhouse, the work costarred Tony Award nominees Manoel Felciano (Sweeney Todd), Bobby Steggert (Big Fish), and Grayson Taylor. The characters in Mothers and Sons are inspired by those in McNally’s Emmy Award-winning 1990 drama Andre’s Mother, which was first produced as part of the anthology series Urban Blight at Manhattan Theater Club in 1988.

Produced by Tom Kirdahy, Paula Wagner & Debbie Bisno, and Alan and Barbara Marks & Wade Turnbull, Mothers and Sons reunites Daly and McNally on Broadway for the first time since the 2011 revival of his drama Master Class. McNally’s many stage works include The Ritz, The Rink, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Ragtime, The Full Monty, and Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.
