The late director/choreographer Michael Bennett, Cate Blanchett, and Anthony Warlow are among the nominees for Australia's Helpmann Awards for live entertainment.

Bennett, who died in 1987, is nominated for his direction and choreography for the musical A Chorus Line, which was recreated by Baayork Lee. The production also received nominations for Best Musical, Best Female Actor in a Musical (Anita Louise Combe), Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Euan Doidge), and Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Debora Krizak).

Blanchett received a nomination for her performance in Gross Und Klein, which is also up for Best Director (Benedict Andrews), and Best Lighting Design (Nick Schlieper).

Warlow, who will be seen in James Lapine's upcoming Broadway revival of Annie, was nominated for his performance as Oliver Warbucks in an Australian production of the musical, which also received nods for Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Todd McKenney), and Best Choreography (Kelly Aykers).

The American rock musical Rock of Ages received nominations for Best Musical, Best Director (Kristin Hanggi), Best Choreography (Kelly Devine), Best Male Actor (Justin Burford), Best Female Actor (Amy Lehpamer), Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Brent Hill), and Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Francine Cain).

Grey Gardens, which features a book by Doug Wright, music by Scott Frankel and lyrics by Michael Korie, was nominated for Best Musical, Best Female Actor in a Musical (Pamela Rabe), Best Female Supporting Actor in a Musical (Nancye Hayes), and Best Director (Roger Hodgman).

The Australian musical An Officer and a Gentleman is up for Best Musical, Best Director (Simon Phillips), Best Choreography (Andrew Hallsworth), Best Female Actor in a Musical (Amanda Harrison), Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Bert LaBonte).
