Stephen Schwartz has contributed to the new album Slice by the singer-songwriter John Ondrasik (aka Five for Fighting), which will be released on October 13 on Columbia Records.

“We sat down at a coffee shop to talk about writing together. I told him about my idea for the song ‘Slice,’ and ‘American Pie’ actually came on the radio,” Schwartz said in a statement. “It was surreal. He immediately wrote the first two lines on a napkin, and we were off and running.”

Schwartz is currently represented on Broadway by the musical Wicked, for which he received a Tony nomination for best score. He was also Tony nominated for his lyrics to Rags, his book and score for Working, and his scores to Godspell and Pippin. He recently wrote the opera Seance on a Wet Afternoon.
