Actor's Playhouse to Shut Down

By Brian Scott Lipton • Aug 2, 2007 • New York City
The Actors' Playhouse, the 62-year-old Off Broadway theater on Seventh Avenue South, will shut down, according to a report in The New York Times.

The newspaper reports that the theater's operator, Peter Berger, was finding the rent to be too expensive. Berger also told the Times that he thought the owner of the property, Duell Management, "was in negotiations with people to turn it into something other than a theater."

Over the years, the Playhouse had been home to such productions as Torch Song Trilogy, Naked Boys Singing!, and The Property Known as Garland.
