Chita Rivera will once again play the role of Claire in the John Kander-Fred Ebb musical version of The Visit, which will kick off Virginia’s Signature Theater 2007-2008 season with performances September 4-October 14, 2007.

As at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre, where the show premiered in 2001, Tony Award winner Frank Galati will direct and Ann Reinking will choreograph; however, this will be a Signature production. Additional casting and the creative team will be announced in the future.

The show is based on Friedrich Durrennmatt’s play of the same title, about a woman who returns to her home town to seek revenge. Kander and the late Ebb collaborated on such musicals as Cabaret, Chicago, and Zorba.

Rivera won Tony Awards for her work in two Kander and Ebb shows, The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman. She also received Tony nominations for her work in Bye Bye Birdie and its short-lived sequel Bring Back Birdie, Chicago, Merlin, the revue Jerry’s Girls, the 2003 revival of Nine, and Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life, which will begin a national tour in January.
