Hugh Panaro will play the title role in the new musical Lestat, which will have a pre-Broadway tryout engagement at San Francisco’s Curran Theater from December 17 through January 29 and is scheduled to hit New York in Spring 2006.

The production will be directed by Robert Jess Roth (Beauty and the Beast), with musical staging by Matt West. Also heading the cast are Carolee Carmello as Gabrielle, Jack Noseworthy as Armand, Jim Stanek as Louis, Roderick Hill as Nicolas, Michael Genet as Marius, and Allison Fischer as Claudia. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Iinspired by Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, Lestat boasts the first theatrical score from the legendary songwriting team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and a book by Linda Woolverton.

Both Panaro and Carmello are currently starring in Broadway shows, he in the title role of The Phantom of the Opera and she as Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia! Noseworthy was last seen on Broadway as Dallas in Sweet Smell of Success. Stanek will soon appear in the Off-Broadway musical Slut; Hill is in the Fringe NYC show The Irish Curse; and Genet will be seen next month in the Second Stage Theatre revival of A Soldier’s Play.
