Richard Dreyfuss and Kyra Sedgwick are set to star in a new play, The Exonerated at 45 Bleecker Street. The production will begin previews there on October 1 and will open officially on October 10.

Written by the husband-wife team of Erik Jensen and Jessica Blank, The Exonerated is a docudrama about death row inmates who spend years in prison before their innocence is at last proven. Inspired to create the piece after attending a conference on the death penalty, Jensen and Blank went all over the country to conduct interviews with dozens of exonerated prisoners; these interviews form the core of the play.

Bob Balaban (who recently appeared in the much-lauded Robert Altman film Gosford Park) will direct The Exonerated. The show is being produced by The Culture Project (where it was developed), Balaban, Patrick Blake, Allan Buchman, and David Elliot. Also in the cast are Kerry Max Cook, Gary Gauger, Robert Earl Hayes, Sonia “Sunny” Jacobs, David Keaton, and Delbert Tibbs.

All tickets for The Exonerated are priced at $55. For reservations, phone Ticketmaster at 212-307-4100.
