HERE Announces 2012-2013 Programming

By New York City
HERE Arts Center has announced its 2012-2013 season.

Among the offerings at the theater will be puppeteer Hanne Tierney's adaptation of Pu Songling's 18th century Chinese folk stories, Strange Tales of Liaozhai (September 6-22). The production will feature music by Jane Wang and projection design by Hannah Wasileski.

Also on HERE's schedule is a co-production with the Hip-Hop Theatre Festival, How to Break (October 18-November 4), a look at two hospitalized teenagers as they cope with grave illnesses. The piece has been created by playwright Aaron Jafferis, breaking pioneers Kwikstep and Rokafella, beatboxers Adam Matta and Yako 440, and director Christopher Edwards.

Other offerings at HERE will include Jake Margolin and Nick Vaughan's multimedia show/installation A Marriage: 1 Suburbia (April 23-May 4) and, You Are Dead. You Are Here. (June 5-29), which has been created by Christine Evans, Joseph Megel, and Jared Mezzocchi.

The HERE season will also include Prototype: Opera/Theatre/Now, a festival of new opera-theater and music theater pieces (January 9-19); the annual CultureMart festival, that presents hybrid works-in progress (January 28 - February 10), along City Council Meeting (May 6-24), developed by Aaron Landsman, using actual texts from many city council meetings he has attended around the country.
