Soul Doctor: The Shlomo Carlebach Musical will play a three-week run as a guest production at New York Theatre Workshop, July 30-August 19, with an opening set for August 13. The production is written and directed by Daniel Wise, with music by Carlebach, lyrics by David Schechter, and additional music and arrangements by Nina Simone.

Soul Doctor tells the story of "Rock Star Rabbi" Shlomo Carlebach, beginning with his escape from the Nazis to his rise in fame in the 1960s, performing with the likes of Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead, to his unlikely friendship with singer Nina Simone.

Eric Anderson will star as Shlomo Carlebach in the musical, with Erica Ash as Nina Simone. the cast will also feature Meredith Kaye Clarke, Ryan Strand, Kenny Morris, Rachel Stern, Dionne Figgins, Ryan Duncan, and Julia Osborne.

The creative team includes Camille A. Brown (choreographer), Neil Patel (scenic design), Maggie Morgan (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design), Clive Goodwin (sound design), Seth Farber (musical direction/arrangements), and Steve Margoshes (orchestrations/additional arrangements). Jeremy Chess, Joel Kahn, Jerome Levy, Edward L. Steinberg, Robert Beckwitt, and Alan Zimbard serve as producers.
