The Brooklyn Philharmonic has announced its plans for the 2011-2012 season.

The company will preview its season with two events featuring Mos Def. On October 8, the philharmonic will offer Brooklyn Phil & Mos Def at Restoration Rock Music Festival at Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaze, and on October 12 at 7pm, the group will offer WNYC New Sounds Live presents the Brooklyn Phil, which will also feature performances by Mellissa Hughes, Corey Dargel and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.

Mos Def and Leslie Uggams will both be featured in Mos Def, Lena Horne and the Bed-Stuy Tradition, to be offered on June 9 at the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza. The event will feature songs made famous by Horne, such as “From This Moment On,” “Lady Is a Tramp” and “Stormy Weather,” but also two remixes of Beethoven created by emerging Brooklyn artists.

The Brooklyn Phil will offer two other events in Bed-Stuy: Poet Tyehimba Jess: Spirituals, Rags & Strings in Brooklyn, to be presented on May 9 at Dweck Center of the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library; and Emcee Me, a family workshop that will be offered on June 2 at the Restoration Plaza Community Room.

The Brooklyn Phil will also offer events in Brighton Beach, including Sergei Dovlatov: Notes of Freedom in Brooklyn (October 30) and Russian Cartoon Music (November 3). The group’s plans for downtown Brooklyn include Brooklyn Village, which, directed by Ted Sperling, will be co-presented with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus and Roulette (March 23-24); and Phil Lopate: Living in Brooklyn (March 1).
