Pulitzer Prize winner Masha Norman will write a new play for Theatre for Humans,. which will be the inaugural offering from the group and receive a production in New York in the spring of 2013.

The new play will focus on challenges facing women and girls in the United States and developing countries around the globe. Norman will develop the piece from interviews -- facilitated by the United Nations Department of Public Information, through its Creative Community Outreach Initiative (CCOI) -- to be conducted in 10 countries throughout Asia, Africa and South America this year.

Norman won a Pulitzer Prize for 'night, Mother and a Tony Award for her book for The Secret Garden. Her other plays include Getting Out, The Holdup, Traveler in the Dark, and The Master Butchers Singing Club.
