Jason Pizzarello’s Once There Was a Boy to Bow at Fordham

Jason Pizzarello’s absurdist look at father-son relationships, Once There Was a Boy, will be the second annual production of The Fordham University Alumni Theatre Company. The play, directed by Aaron Rhyne, will run August 1 – 11 at Fordham University’s Pope Auditorium.

“Boy,” a semi-finalist for a Princess Grace Award, tells the story of a young boy growing up attached to his father–literally. When the young outcast develops a magical connection with a witch’s daughter, the young lovers hatch a plan to free themselves from family and from society’s shackles.

The company will feature Broadway veterans Frances Mercanti-Anthony (Spring Awakening) and Ian Quinlan (The Lion King), who will be joined by Jeff Barry, Kim Carpenter, Maria Teresa Creasey, Marco Formosa, Josh Lacasse, Maria McConville, Brian Murray, Christopher Tramantana, Amir Watcherman and Stacey Weingarten.

In addition to directing, Rhyne will provide projection design for the production. Other members of the creative team include Erich Bussing (scenic design), Tara Devincenzo (costume design), Ryan Seeling (lighting design), and Tim Chaffee (sound design). Playwright Pizzarello will collaborate with Stacey Weingarten on the production’s puppet design.
