Last night, the musical Xanadu skated into Broadway’s Helen Hayes Theatre to enthusiastic reviews. Here, at the show’s after-party at Providence, is leading lady Kerry Butler, who earned raves for her portrayal of Greek muse Kira.
Former All Shook Up star Cheyenne Jackson, who’s currently playing the part of Sonny, is all dressed up for the festivities.
James Carpinello, the show’s original Sonny, hopes to return to the musical once his leg heals. He was injured while skating in one of the musical’s rehearsals.
Broadway veterans Jackie Hoffman, Tony Roberts, and Mary Testa provide amazing support in Xanadu as Calliope, Danny/Zeus, and Melpomene.
Choreographer Dan Knechtges and author Douglas Carter Beane are all smiles at the after party.
Adding even more excitement to the evening was the presence of singer-actress Olivia Newton-John, who played Kira in the 1980 film version of Xanadu, and John Farrar, one of the composers of the show’s ultra-catchy score.
Among the other opening night guests were Tony Award winner Cynthia Nixon, who starred Off-Broadway in Beane’s The Country Club and who will soon begin filming the long-awaited Sex & the City movie…
…her fellow Sex co-star and Broadway favorite Mario Cantone…
…film and television star D.B. Sweeney…
…and Pirate Queen leading lady Stephanie J. Block, who will soon perform at the Broadway at Birdland series.
Meanwhile, the stars of two Disney musicals had some very special backstage visitors recently. TV’s Supernanny Jo Frost (center) popped into Mary Poppins to the delight of actors Megan Osterhaus and Gavin Lee…
…while former Cosby kid Raven-Symone gave a big pre-show hello to her That’s So Raven co-star Anneliese Van Der Pol, who plays Belle in Beauty and the Beast.
