Broadway veterans Nancy Opel and Bryan Batt will head the cast of My Deah, playwright John Epperson’s Southern take on Medea, at the Abingdon Theatre Company, October 13-November 12. The show, which will open officially on October 25, had a workshop production at the Abingdon earlier this year.

Mark Waldrop will direct My Deah, which will also feature Lori Gardner, Geoffrey Malloy, Jay Rogers, and Kevin Townley. The show’s creative team includes Mark Simpson (sets and lighting), Ramona Ponce (costumes), and Matt Berman (sound); Epperson is better known as the performance artist Lypsinka.

Opel received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Urinetown and has also been seen on Broadway in Evita, Anything Goes, Sunday in the Park With George, Triumph of Love, and Fiddler on the Roof. Batt’s many Broadway credits include Cats, Beauty and the Beast, Sunset Boulevard, Seussical and La Cage aux Folles; he also starred in both the Off-Broadway and film versions of Jeffrey, and is well known for his work in the Forbidden Broadway series.

Prior to My Deah, the Abingdon will present the world premiere production of James Armstrong’s political comedy Foggy Bottom, beginning September 2. For tickets or information, call 212-868-4444.
