Musicals Tonight! Announces 2002-2003 Season

Much like City Center Encores! but far more intimate in scale and with a fuller schedule of shows, Mel Miller’s Musicals Tonight! series presents concert versions of seldom scene musicals. The selections for the upcoming season nearly span a century, the earliest being Irving Berlin’s Stop! Look! Listen! from 1915, and the most recent being Stephen Flaherty & Lynn Ahrens’ My Favorite Year, which bowed at Lincoln Center in 1992.

The six shows that Musicals Tonight! will present in concert in 2002-2003 are as follows:

Stop! Look! Listen!–Irving Berlin
Chee-Chee–Rodgers & Hart
The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd–Briscusse & Newley
The New Yorkers–Cole Porter
My Favorite Year–Ahrens & Flaherty
Lady, Be Good!–George & Ira Gershwin

In addition to its regular season, Musicals Tonight! will also offer salutes to the talents of 10 stars of classic movie musicals: Dick Powell, Alice Faye, Lena Horne, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, Betty Grable, Tony Martin, Mary Martin, Danny Kaye, and Gene Kelly. In these concerts, the Musicals Tonight! casts will tell stories about the lives of these performers and sing the songs that made them famous.

Tickets for individual shows are $19 but cheaper if you subscribe to the season. For more information, contact Musicals Tonight! at 212-362-5620.
