Ethan Hawke, who received a 2007 Tony Award nomination for his performance as Russian revolutionary Michael Bakunin in Tom Stoppard’s The Coast of Utopia, will return to Broadway this fall in the title role of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Entertainment Weekly reports. The revival is expected to be produced under the auspices of Lincoln Center Theater, though representatives for the organization could not confirm the magazine’s report.

Hawke’s stage credits also include Clive, which he directed and starred in for the New Group, Ivanov, Blood From a Stone, A Lie of the Mind, for which he received a 2010 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Director of a Play, Hurlyburly, Henry IV, and many others. An Academy Award nominee for Training Day, he has also appeared in films including Dead Poets Society, Reality Bites, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, and Hamlet. As part the recent PBS miniseries Shakespeare Uncovered, Hawke studied the play in an attempt to find out its deeper meaning.

The production would be the second 2013 revival of Macbeth seen on Broadway. The first, starring Alan Cumming, Jenny Sterlin, and Brendan Titley, is currently running at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre through July 14. It would join a Shakespeare-heavy Broadway season that includes previously announced productions of Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, and Richard III.
