The piece features music by Alban Berg, Thomas de Hartmann, Arthur Lourié, Arnold Schoenberg, Alexander Scriabin, and Anton Webern. It is presented in conjunction with the Kandinsky retrospective at The Guggenheim Museum, and is conceived and directed by Sarah Rothenberg, with lighting and set design by Marcus Doshi, and projection design by Sven Ortel. The work will feature the Brentano String Quartet (Mark Steinberg, violin; Serena Canin, violin; Misha Amory, viola; and Nina Lee, cello), with mezzo-soprano Susan Narucki, Rothenberg on piano, and dancers from Armitage Gone! Dance.
The Miller Theatre season will also include a series of "Composer Portraits" dedicated to Iannis Xenakis, Galina Ustvolskaya, Ralph Shapey, Kaija Saariaho, Lou Reed, Benet Casablancas, Sebastian Currier, and Helmut Lachenmann; the Wordless Music Meets Miller Festival which blends indie rock and the new classical; a lunchtime concert series; the Bach & the Baroque series; the Early Music series; jazz artists Cyrus Chestnut, Marty Ehrlich, Eric Reed, Carla Cook, and Damien Sneed; and a special William Schuman Award Concert honoring Pauline Oliveros.
