Furious Improvisation Author Susan Quinn to Give Talk at Cherry Pit

The Play Company will present Susan Quinn, author of Furious Improvisation: How the WPA and a Cast of Thousands Made High Art out of Desperate Times, as part of the company’s Idea Lab event series, at The Cherry Pit on June 26, at 6pm.

Quinn will use rare archival footage culled from the National Archives to illustrate the story of The Federal Theatre Project, a WPA relief program headed by Hallie Flanagan that staged controversial productions, created by some of the greatest figures in 20th century American arts, including Orson Welles, John Houseman, and Sinclair Lewis.
