The Royal Court Theatre production of My Name Is Rachel Corrie, the controversial play taken from the writings of the 23-year-old American war protester who was killed in Israel, will have a 48-performance run at the Minetta Lane Theatre, October 5-November 19. Directed by Alan Rickman and presented by Dena Hammerstein and Pam Pariseau, the show will open officially on October 15. No casting has yet been announced.

Rickman and writer Katharine Viner, features editor of the British newspaper The Guardian, edited Corrie’s diaries, letters, and e-mails for the play, which traces Corrie’s life from her early days in Washington to her experience as an activist in Gaza, where she was killed by a bulldozer. The show will feature set design by Hildegard Bechtler, lighting design by Johanna Town, and sound and video design by Emma Laxton.

The play was seen twice at the Royal Court in London in 2005, and had a nine-week engagement earlier this year at the Playhouse Theatre in London’s West End. Earlier this spring, New York Theatre Workshop had planned to bring the show to New York, but that production was postponed amidst a swirl of controversy.

Rickman is best known for his acting work, which includes his Tony Award-nominated performances in Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Private Lives. His film credits include Love Actually, Die Hard, and the Harry Potter films, in which he plays Professor Severus Snape.
