Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf will switch to a varying schedule of six- and seven-performances per week for the period between July 4 and September 4. The critically acclaimed new production of Edward Albee’s masterpiece had advertised “final weeks” earlier this month, but no closing date has been set. The show began performances at the Longacre Theatre on March 12.

Virginia Woolf stars Kathleen Turner as Martha, Bill Irwin as George, David Harbour as Nick, and Mireille Enos as Honey. Irwin won a 2005 Tony Award for his performance, and all of his castmates received Tony nominations. The show itself was nominated for Best Revival (Drama) but lost to Glengarry Glen Ross.

In other Virginia Woolf news, the 1966 film based on the play will be screened in Bryant Park on Monday, August 15. Directed by Mike Nichols, the movie stars real-life couple ElizabethTaylor and Richard Burton as George and Martha, with George Segal and Sandy Dennis as Nick and Honey. Taylor and Dennis both won Academy Awards for their work.
