Michael John LaChiusa's musical revisits the life of Anna Edson Taylor, who, in 1901, set out to be the first woman to shoot Niagara Falls, in a barrel of her own design. Jack Cummings III directed the production.
The company features Mary Testa as Taylor, along with D.C. Anderson, Stanley Bahorek, Theresa McCarthy, Julia Murney, Andrew Samonsky, and Tally Sessions. The production also has orchestrations by Michael Starobin and musical direction is by Chris Fenwick who conducted the original seven-piece orchestra for the recording.
Queen of the Mist recently received seven Drama Desk Award nominations, for Outstanding Musical, Michael John LaChiusa's book, music and lyrics, director Jack Cummings III, actor Andrew Samonsky, and orchestrator Michael Starobin. In addition, star Mary Testa is receiving a special award "For over three decades, she has dazzled audiences with consistently outstanding work, including her tour-de-force performance in this season's Queen of the Mist."
