Musicals Tonight! Adds Cole Porter’s Red, Hot and Blue to 2012-2013 Season
Musicals Tonight! has announced an update for its 2012-2013 season, to be presented at the Lion Theatre at Theatre Row.
The season will now open with Cole Porter’s Red, Hot and Blue, to run from October 2-14. Featuring a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, the piece originally served as a vehicle for Ethel Merman, Jimmy Durante, and Bob Hope, and introduced the song “It’s De-Lovely” to popular music.
As previously reported, next up will be Comden, Green and Styne’s spoof of 1930’s Hollywood, Fade Out-Fade In, to run October 16-28. Strike Up the Band, George and Ira Gershwin’s satire on America’s war habits, will follow, running March 12-24, 2013.
This is followed by the American premiere of Stan Daniels’ musical adaptation of Bernard Slade’s Same Time, Next Year, running April 2-14. The piece looks at a couple who meet for a romantic tryst once a year for 24 years.
The season closes with Leave It to Jane (April 16-28), Jerome Kern, Guy Bolton, and P.G. Wodehouse’s satire of college life in Midwestern America.
