The Tony Randall Theatrical Fund has announced the recipients of 2010 Tony Randall Grants, which provide operating support to assist outstanding theater companies. The awards are administered by Heather Randall, the widow of legendary actor Tony Randall.

Playwrights Horizons, The Wooster Group, St. Ann’s Warehouse and PS122 are four organizations that have received support in recognition of sustained artistic excellence. Two relatively new companies, New Georges and Pig Iron Ensemble, have been awarded grants to support their groundbreaking experimental work, while Pregones Theatre, has been honored for its long-time commitment to programming for Latino communities in the Bronx. Similarly honored is The Classical Theatre of Harlem for its work in the upper part of Manhattan. Two other theaters outside of Manhattan have received grants: New Jersey’s McCarter Theatre Center and Connecticut’s Eugene O’Neill Theater Center for their long devotion to developing works and artists outside the city’s spotlight.

An additional grant has been made by the National Actors Theatre Foundation, also administered by Mrs. Randall, to Lincoln Center Theater’s production of John Guare’s A Free Man of Color. The play will be directed by George C. Wolfe and is an epic set in 1801 New Orleans, about a new world Don Juan.
