New York Public Library to Present Great Pretenders: A Tribute to Drag Kings and Queens.

The Third Annual Drag Show Video Vérité will be shown on Thursday, June 18 at 6pm the Bruno Walter Auditorium of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. The film will be shown as part of a four-part series entitled Great Pretenders: A Tribute to Drag Kings and Queens.

The videotape, which was put together by drag historian Joe E. Jeffreys, will feature footage of All The King’s Men, Joey Arias, Lady Bunny, Mr. Lynn Carter, Jackie Curtis, Candy Darling, Flotilla DeBarge, Divine, Dred, Ethyl Eichelberger, Epiphany, Zondra Foxx, Oswaldo Gomez, Murray Hill, Robert LaFosse (as Isadora Duncan), Charles Ludlam, Vickie Lynn, Lypsinka, Brini Maxwell, Miss Vera’s Finishing School for Boys Who Want to Be Girls, Raven Q. Peppermint, Everett Quinton, RuPaul, Linda Simpson, Sweetie, Sydicious, Ann Tique, Sherry Vine, Rose Wood, and Holly Woodlawn, along with never before seen outtakes from the 1968 documentary The Queen.

The series will also include a performance by “drag king” Mildred Dred Gerestant (May 30 at 3pm); a lecture by Alexis Green entitled Female Impersonator Extraordinaire: The Many Faces of Julian Eltinge (June 4 at 6pm); and A Date with Liberace featuring concert pianist drag diva Jacqueline Jonee (June 25 at 6pm).
