50th Anniversary Gypsy Recording to Be Released on May 5

Masterworks Broadway will issue a special 50th Anniversary edition of the Original Broadway Cast recording of Gypsy, starring Ethel Merman, on Tuesday, May 5.

The new CD features the show’s score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, a group of bonus tracks — including “Mama’s Talkin’ Soft” and “Nice She Ain’t” — from the 1999 reissue of the recording, and three new bonus tracks: a publisher’s demo of the song “Who Needs Him?”; a conversation between Styne and Michael Feinstein recorded in 1990; and a reminiscence of burlesque by Gypsy Rose Lee, which was recorded in 1959. The CD package also includes additional production photographs.
