Disney Theatrical Productions and Stage Entertainment will open a production of the current Broadway musical Tarzan in Holland next spring at the Circustheatre near Amsterdam. A second production is scheduled to open in Germany in 2008.

The show’s American cast, led by Josh Strickland and Jenn Gambatese, will not be used for the Dutch production; casting will begin shortly. Based on the 1999 Disney film of the same name, Tarzan is directed by Tony Award winner Bob Crowley. It has a score by Grammy Award winner Phil Collins and a book by Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang.

“It’s unusual for a second production to be mounted so soon after a Broadway opening,” said Thomas Schumacher, the president of, Disney Theatrical Productions, “but Joop van den Ende [chairman of Stage Entertainment] and his team have been supportive of the show throughout its development. I am very pleased it will have its international premiere in The Netherlands.”

Stage Entertainment currently has five Disney productions in their theaters, including The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Aida.
