Siân Phillips and Simon Jones will join Kaye Ballard and Paul Hecht in the Bay Street Theatre’s production of Ronald Harwood’s Quartet, May 23-June 4. The production will be directed by Tony Award winner Jack Hofsiss.

The play is set in a home for retired opera singers, where the residents are preparing to celebrate the birthday of the great composer Giuseppe Verdi. Three former colleagues are at odds over the arrival of the newest resident, a diva with whom they once performed.

Phillips received a Tony Award nomination for playing Marlene Dietrich in Marlene and also starred on Broadway in An Inspector Calls. She is best known for her role as Livia in the TV miniseries I, Claudius. Jones has starred on Broadway in such shows as Benefactors, Private Lives, Ring Round the Moon, and Waiting in the Wings.

Ballard starred on Broadway in such shows as The Golden Apple, Carnival, and The Pirates of Penzance, and is well known for her TV series The Mothers-in-Law. Hecht received a Tony Award nomination for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead; his other Broadway credits include 1776, The Rothschilds, Noises Off, and The Invention of Love.
