The 2009-2010 Outer Critics Circle Awards were announced on Monday, April 26 at the Algonquin Hotel by actors (and siblings) Sutton Foster and Hunter Foster. The winners will be announced on Monday, May 17, with an official ceremony at Sardi's to be held on Thursday, May 27.

Memphis and The Royal Family each received seven nominations to lead the pack, followed by The Scottsboro Boys (6), The Addams Family (5), Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (5), The Orphans' Home Cycle(5), and Promises, Promises (5).

Memphis has been nominated for Outstanding New Musical and Outstanding New Score. In addition, Christopher Ashley has been nominated for Outstanding Direction of a Musical, while the production's stars, Chad Kimball and Montego Glover have been nominated in Lead Actor and Actress in a musical, respectively. Nominations have also gone to the show's choreographer Sergio Trujillo, and Cass Morgan for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.

The nominations for Royal Family include Outstanding Revival of a Play as well as Outstanding Director of a Play for Doug Hughes. Jan Maxwell was nominated as Outstanding Actress in a Play, Rosemary Harris was nominated for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play, and Reg Rogers was nominated for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play.

Maxwell was also nominated in this latter category for her work in Lend Me a Tenor, which was nominated for Best Revival of a Play and also earned a nomination for director Stanley Tucci.

Alongside Memphis, the nominations for Outstanding Broadway Musical are American Idiot, Come Fly Away, Fela!, and Sondheim on Sondheim. The nominations for Outstanding Broadway Play are Next Fall, Red, Superior Donuts, and Time Stands Still.

Among the Off-Broadway productions, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, The Scottsboro Boys, Tin Pan Alley Rag, and Yank! have been nominated in the Outstanding Musical category. Meanwhile, Clybourne Park, The Orphans Home Cycle, The Pride, and The Temperamentals have been nominated in the Outstanding Play Category.
