Reg E. Gaines’ Lessons on the A Train Set for Downtown Urban Theater Festival

Tony nominee Reg E. Gaines’ new musical under development, Lessons on the A Train, will give a free theatrical preview as part of the Downtown Urban Theater Festival, at Theater for the New City on April 24 at 3pm and 6pm.

Lessons is an original coming-of-age story about a group of urban teenagers growing up in modern day NYC. It’s put in motion one day on the A subway train where Bronx girls, Julissa and Lyria, find freedom to explore life choices when they encounter the candy-toting Raheim. Gaines’ received Tony nominations for his book and score to Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk, for which he also received a Grammy nomination.

Works featured in this two-week festival, which runs April 21-May 1, will also include pieces by James Earl Hardy, Lawrence Dial, William Fowkes, Dina Laura, Michele Cuomo, Ian Gonzalez Phillips, Riccardo Costa, Mel Nieves, Lina Sarrello, Imran Javaid, Cesi Davidson, Nicole Kearney, and Kash Goins.
