Alan Alda will moderate a discussion with Tony Award winning playwright David Henry Hwang, physicist Brian Greene, and filmmakers and visual artists Al and Al. The discussion will explore the creative process behind a brand-new performance piece Icarus at the Edge of Time, featuring newly commissioned music by Philip Glass, which will be given a special sneak peek at a Works & Process at the Guggenheim event on Sunday, April 25, at 3pm & 7:30pm and Monday, April 26, at 7:30pm.

Inspired by Greene’s moving futuristic reimagining of the Icarus fable, in this version, Icarus travels not to the sun but to a black hole, and in so doing poignantly dramatizes one of Einstein’s greatest insights leading to deeper appreciation of the cosmos. The piece will world premiere at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on June 2, 2010, to mark the opening of the third annual World Science Festival.
