The Broadway musical Mary Poppins, currently playing the New Amsterdam Theatre, will celebrate its 1000th performance on April 9.

The show, based on stories by P.L. Travers and the Oscar-winning 1964 Walt Disney film of the same title, is directed by Richard Eyre, with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne and additional choreography by Stephen Mear. Mary Poppins has a book by Julian Fellows, and uses the original film score by Robert and Richard Sherman, augmented by new songs written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
One of only a few musicals in Broadway’s history to reach 1000 performances, the production recouped its initial Broadway investment within 52 weeks of its premiere, and has grossed over $132 million to date.

The current cast stars Scarlett Strallen and Adam Fiorentino as Mary Poppins and Bert, with Daniel Jenkins (Mr. Banks), Rebecca Luker (Mrs. Banks), Jane Carr (Mrs. Brill), Ann Arvia (Bird Woman), Mark Price (Robertson Ay), Ruth Gottschall (Miss Andrew) and Jeff Steitzer (Admiral Boom).
