Award-winning writer, director, producer and founder of the American Film Institute, George Stevens Jr., will be honored at the Joyce Theater Foundation spring gala, to be held at ESPACE (635 West 42nd Street) on April 27 beginning at 6:30 pm.

The event — coordinated by Tony-nominated choreographer Rob Ashford along with Event Committee members — will feature a cabaret performance by husband and wife singing duo John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey and dance performances by Gallim Dance and Keigwin + Company. John Guare and Michael Kaiser will serve as co-chairs.

Stevens has received eleven Emmys, two Peabody Awards and eight Writers Guild of America Awards for his television productions, including the annual Kennedy Center Honors, Separate But Equal and The Murder of Mary Phagan. His production of The Thin Red Line was nominated for seven Academy Awards including best picture. His play, Thurgood, about Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, was seen last season on Broadway.

Proceeds from the event will support The Joyce’s education program as well as dance companies that will perform at The Joyce Theater and Joyce SoHo.
