The Broadway production of Terrence McNally’s new play Deuce, starring Angela Lansbury and Marian Seldes, will not be eligible for the 2007 Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, or Drama League Awards.

According to a statement from the show’s producers, “The eligibility requirements for those awards asked that the nominators of the respective organizations be accommodated to see the show after only a week of performances. We decided that this was too much pressure to put on the cast and the production.” Deuce is scheduled to begin previews on April 11 and to open officially on May 6.

Deuce tells the story of two former women’s tennis champions who are reunited at a tournament. As they watch from the sidelines, they reminisce, remember past triumphs, and unearth forgotten truths. Michael Blakemore is directing the production; the creative team also includes Peter J. Davison (sets), Ann Roth (costumes), Mark Henderson (lighting), Sven Ortel (video/projection), and Paul Charlier (sound).
