2007 Lucille Lortel Nominations and Special Award Winners Announced

Nominations and special awards for the 22nd annual Lucille Lortel Awards, honoring the best of Off-Broadway, were announced today. The awards ceremony will be held on Monday, May 7 at New World Stages, with Bebe Neuwirth and Eric Bogosian as hosts.

During the ceremony, actor Kevin Kline will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, noted fight director Rick Sordelet will receive the Edith Oliver Award for Sustained Excellence, and the Classical Theatre of Harlem will receive a special award for Outstanding Body of Work. As previously announced, The Actors’ Fund of America will be presented with a special award for 125 years of service, and Christopher Durang will be honored with a star on the Playwright’s Sidewalk outside the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

The Atlantic Theatre’s productions of Spring Awakening, which moved to Broadway last fall, and The Voysey Inheritance received a grand total of 11 nominations. The Public Theater’s production of Stuff Happens received five nominations. Among the actors up for Lortel Awards are Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ed Harris (for Neil LaBute’s Wrecks), Jill Clayburgh, Patricia Heaton, and Sherie Rene Scott.
