Norm Lewis is set to play the title role in an industry reading of Steven M. Fisher's Mandela: A New Musical on March 31. The event will be directed by David Glenn Armstrong, with music direction by Micah Young.
In addition to Lewis, the cast will include Tony nominee Forrest McClendon (The Scottsboro Boys), Rosena M. Hill Jackson (After Midnight), Darlesia Cearcy (The Book of Mormon), John Henry Cox (Desire Under the Elms), Alan H. Green (Sister Act), Aisha de Haas (Caroline or Change), Isaiah Johnson (Far From Heaven), Nehal Joshi (Les Misérables), Jacob Ming-Trent (Hands on a Hardbody), Paul O'Brien (On a Clear Day You Can See Forever), Ben Schrager, Michael Sharon, and Nick Wyman (Catch Me If You Can). The show will also include 60 members of the Keystone State Boychoir and Pennsylvania Girlchoir.
Norm Lewis' Broadway credits include Les Misérables, The Little Mermaid, and The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess. It was recently announced that he will take on the title role in Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera, making him the production's first African-American Phantom.
