Tony Award winner Kevin Spacey will star in the one-hour TV drama pilot House of Cards, according to a report in Variety.

The pilot is adapted from the British political thriller miniseries of the same name. Playwright Beau Willimon has written the script, and David Fincher will executive produce and direct. Variety reports that no network is currently attached to the project.

Spacey won the Tony for Lost in Yonkers and was Tony-nominated for The Iceman Cometh. Among his film credits is his Oscar-winning turn in American Beauty. He is the artistic director of the Old Vic, and as previously announced, will star in the title role of Richard III as part of the 2012 Bridge Project season.
