The musical, performing at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, is presented by Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Will & Jada Pinkett Smith, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Bill T. Jones with a book by Jim Lewis.
The show is about Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's controversial life as artist, political activist, and revolutionary musician. It features his rousing music performed live onstage by the world renowned Antibalas (also to be featured on the recording) and other members of the NYC Afrobeat community, under the direction of Aaron Johnson. The production also features musical arrangements and additional music by Johnson and Jordan McLean.
The production stars Sahr Ngaujah and Kevin Mambo (who alternate the title role), with principal cast members also including Lillias White (Funmilayo) and Saycon Sengbloh (Sandra).
