Wasserstein and Shanley Will Be Honored at Lucille Lortel Awards Ceremony

Playwrights Wendy Wasserstein and John Patrick Shanley will be honored at this year’s Lucille Lortel Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place at 7pm on Monday, May 1 at New World Stages (currently Dodger Stages but being renamed this week). The awards, which recognize the best in Off-Broadway theater, were established in 1985.

Wasserstein, who died on January 30, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously. Shanley will be inducted onto the Playwrights’ Sidewalk located in front of the Lucille Lortel Theater on Christopher Street. (He won last year’s Lortel Award for Doubt.)

The nominees for the 21st annual Lucile Lortel Awards will be announced on April 4. A limited number of tickets to the ceremony will go on sale that day; they may be purchased via phone (call 212-239-6200) or at the New World Stages box office.
