Tony Award winner Leslie Uggams and students from Amas Musical Theatre’s Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy will perform a special benefit for the Katrina’s Kids Project at 6pm on Wednesday, March 29 at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South). The proceeds will go to “Hope…One Crayon at a Time,” which uses the performing arts to help children overcome problems through creative expression.

Uggams will read comments from young New Orleans artists who lived as evacuees in Houston as they dealt with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Amas students will perform songs from their upcoming musical On the Town, by Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green. That show will be seen at the Hudson Guild Theatre, May 12-21.

Tickets to the benefit begin at $200 and can be ordered by calling 631-447-3996. For more information on Amas, visit www.amasmusical.org.
