Peter Scanavino will join Brían F. O’Byrne, Oliver Platt, and Martha Plimpton in the upcoming Manhattan Theatre Club production of Conor McPherson’s Shining City. Directed by Tony Award winner Robert Falls, the show will begin preview performances at the Biltmore Theatre on April 20 and will open on May 9, six days later than previously announced; the change is due to an extension of the run of the Biltmore’s current tenant, Rabbit Hole, through April 9.

The creative team for Shining City includes Santo Loquasto (sets), Kaye Voyce (costumes), Christopher Akerlind (lighting), and Obadiah Eaves (sound). The play is set in Dublin, where a guilt-ridden man named John (Platt) reaches out to Ian, a troubled therapist (O’Byrne), after seeing the ghost of his recently deceased wife. McPherson’s previous works include The Weir and Dublin Carol.

Scanavino will make his Broadway debut in the role of Laurence; his Off-Broadway credits include The Moonlight Room and Urgent Fury. O’Byrne won the Tony Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in Frozen and received Tony nominations for his work in Doubt, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, and The Lonesome West. Platt appeared in the Shakespeare in the Park production of Twelfth Night and is a two-time Emmy Award nominee for Huff and The West Wing. Plimpton was previously seen on Broadway in Sixteen Wounded; among her Off-Broadway credits are The False Servant, Boston Marriage, Flesh and Blood, and Hobson’s Choice, for which she won an Obie Award.
