On Thursday, May 27, New Dramatists — the nation’s oldest not-for-profit workshop devoted to the development of new playwrights — will honor actress Meryl Streep with its 2004 Career Achievement Award at its 55th annual spring luncheon, to be held in the Broadway Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis (1535 Broadway, between 45th and 46th streets).

Kevin Kline (who appeared with Streep in the film Sophie’s Choice) will present the award, and playwright Tony Kushner (who wrote Angels in America, in which Streep gave a Golden Globe Award-winning performance) will also pay tribute to the star.

The luncheon will begin with a champagne reception at 11:15am and will end at 2:30pm. Tickets are $200 (partly tax-deductible) and may be purchased by calling 212-757-6960, ext. 13. All proceeds will benefit New Dramatists.
