Broadway veterans and Tony Award nominees Kelli O'Hara (Nice Work If You Can Get It) and Jessie Mueller (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), along with Metropolitan Opera stars Nathan Gunn and Stephanie Blythe, offered a sneak preview of the New York Philharmonic's upcoming concert production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel in their rehearsal room on Wednesday, February 20.
O'Hara and Gunn, who star as ill-fated lovers Julie Jordan and Billy Bigelow, serenaded the onlookers with the show tune standard "If I Loved You," while Mueller, who plays Carrie Pipperidge, and Blythe, who sings the role of Nettie Fowler, were joined by the large ensemble to perform the rousing "June is Bustin' Out All Over."
Directed by Tony Award winner John Rando (A Christmas Story) and choreographed by Tony nominee Warren Carlyle (Chaplin), the New York Philharmonic production will also star Jason Danieley (Curtains) as Enoch Snow, Tony Award winner Shuler Hensley (Oklahoma!) as Jigger Cragin, Tony Award nominee Kate Burton (The Constant Wife) as Mrs. Mullin, and Tony Award winner John Cullum (110 in the Shade) as the Starkeeper/Dr. Seldon. Rob Fisher will conduct the 71-piece orchestra.
In addition to the live show, running February 27-March 2 at Avery Fisher Hall, the production will be telecast on PBS on Friday, April 26 as part of Live from Lincoln Center.
