Two performances have been added to the The Public Theater‘s run of Rinne Groff’s Compulsion, currently in previews with an opening on February 17. The run, which must close on March 13, has added weekend performances on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5 at 8pm. Oskar Eustis has directed the production.

Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actor Mandy Patinkin stars in the play as Sid Silver, a man obsessed with the diary of Anne Frank. The character is inspired by Meyer Levin, the journalist and screenwriter who helped publicize the existence of the diary, and who came to believe that the chance to adapt it for the stage had been stolen from him.

Patinkin has previously played his role at Yale Repertory Theatre and Berkeley Repertory Theatre, under Eustis’ direction. He is joined by Hannah Cabell and Matte Osian.

The creative team includes scenic designer Eugene Lee, costume designer Susan Hilferty, lighting designer Michael Chybowski, sound designer Darron L West, video and projection designer Jeff Sugg, and puppet designer Matt Acheson.
