Seven New York theater companies will participate in The Second Annual Battle of the Bards competition, to be held at 7pm on Friday, March 3 at Crobar (530 West 28th Street).

Each of the companies — LAByrinth, Ma-Yi, Intar, Studio 42, Youngblood, Partial Comfort, and Vampire Cowboys — will present the world premiere of a one-act play that they will create and rehearse over the course of the previous two weeks. The evening’s judges will be actors Sigourney Weaver, Josh Lucas, and Diane Neal; playwright Christopher Durang; director Jo Bonney; casting director Amy Christopher; journalist David Cote; and Oskar Eustis, artistic director of The Public Theater. There will also be an audience favorite award.

Tickets range in price from $10 to $50. All proceeds from the event will benefit the upcoming production of the play Baby Girl, which begins performances on March 10 at Center Stage at 48 West 21st Street.
