Two-time Tony Award winner John Cullum and Broadway baddie Patrick Page will star in the Broadway premiere of Harvey Fierstein's new play, Casa Valentina, at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The news, first reported by The New York Post, was confirmed by a spokesperson for MTC.
Inspired by actual events, Fierstein's first play in nearly 30 years is set in a Catskill Mountains bungalow colony circa 1962, where a group of heterosexual men spend their weekends dressing and acting as women. When they're given the opportunity to become an official organization, the group must decide whether public recognition would help their lives or destroy their families.
Page, who most recently appeared on Broadway as The Green Goblin in Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, is set to play the resort's manager. Cullum last appeared onstage in New York in Detroit at Playwrights Horizons.
Directed by Joe Mantello, Casa Valentina begins previews April 1 in advance of an April 23 opening.
